Colour up your home! With little things...

We love colour. We love it in our bed, our lounge room and our kitchen. The easiest way to colour up a room is with fabric. Stay away from paint! I wanted to show a few examples of how you can brighten up your place without spending a bucket load. Have a looksie at what i've done!

I recovered my mums dressing table chair in Lotta Kuhlhorn fabric

If you have the gift of sewing try making a simple throw to fancy up your bed!
Lotta Kuhlhorn fabric again. I just love the vibrance of her prints!

Use a bunch of old books (from Vinnies) to add some character to your buffet

I salvaged a bunch of vintage fabric from my grandparent's house to create these simple canvas prints

Instead of stacking your books horizontally, have a look around for something to prop them up!

Just loving life

So, the weather in Sydney has been amazing lately and the weekend just gone was beautiful! I had a lovely day on Sunday strolling around Newtown and Erskineville, soaking up the atmosphere and the sunshine. I just love the area and find it's always inspiring to walk around and check out all the vintage goodies, the art and craft stores and all the gorgeous little houses and gardens. Here are a few snaps, enjoy xx

It's Love at 1st Sight! - Literally!

We love recycled furniture, and when our eyes come across an amazing company like Love at 1st Sight, the heart starts fluttering at their vast and exquisite range of recycled furniture. It's all fair and well to slap on a funky coat of pant and fix up a few scratches, but what these guys have done is something more intricate and has added a sense of individually to each piece. Their furniture is hand picked from auction houses, vintage markets & second hand stores. Some are rescued from the side of the road or discovered at a garage sale. The use of amazing coloured fabric on each piece lets you have that comfort that it's yours, and no one else has the same as you! It's a must to check out their shop! http://www.loveat1stsight.com.au/

Enjoy the rain - In the most stylish way!

Sydney has encountered a bundle of rain lately, and of that we've decided to find some of the best saviours for the rain. After all, who want's the wet weather to ruin their outfit? We certainly don't! I (Amy) worked in London in the year of 2006 and couldn't help but drawn towards a cute little floral decorated store by the name of Cath Kidston while walking to work. Its classic country chic shop window drew you in on both miserable and sunny days. I'd spend my weekly wage on some of the best rain attire and still to this day I have kept them!

I doubt she would remember the bubbly girl behind the counter of the Cafe in Ladbroke Grove, but I was gushing with excitement when I actually met the real Cath Kidston! I think I remember her favourite home made ice cream flavour was the strawberries. Below are some of Cath's gorgeous products. They are available for shipping to Australia and her wellies are absolutely divine!

Me in my Cath Kidston wellies!

Cath's Wellies come in a vast range of patterns and colours

Cath's gorgeous brollies are too cute! You will get stopped on the street!

These cute Oil Cloth bags are great in the wet weather. Put away you good leather bag and pop you things in this!

All things Marie Antionette

Marie Antionette is an amazing movie. If you haven't seen it, you are missing out on all things pretty, pink and delicious. The 2006 film (directed by the amazingly talented Sofia Coppola) takes a more modernistic and less demure approach to Marie's ridiculous fluttering of money (check out the Converse pumps in the third photo down!). The soundtrack is pretty rad too. In dedication to the movie we have been trawling the internet for all things Antionette. We hope you enjoy the delightful pictures and hopefully they take you to that happy place!

Terrarium - Of that kind!

I have discovered a new alternative to giving flowers. Give a terrarium instead! The happiest feeling about them is that they last forever! Flowers don't. These little bundles of plant mass contain a personalised utopia that sits on your window and makes you smile when your standing drinking a cuppa.

I made a bunch over the weekend and I just love them! They are so simple to make, yet look so complex. I'm not going to show you how to make one, as there are 101 videos online dedicated to terrarium building. However, I will give you a few tips. First of all, when looking for a terrarium vase, just go to Vinnies! I found mine for $4 each! Also, I used a variety of ground coverings including baby's tears and corsican mint, the mint is more hardy. Also, they need to keep damp all the time or the heat form the glass will fry the plants! Last of all, add your own personal touch like your nannas ceramic bunny, or a little gnome you found on that road trip.

We are selling these terrariums in the photos below for a steal! Send us an email at thefoxtrail@gmail.com for prices & delivery (within Sydney only), I guarantee you, they will be cheaper than the next bunch of flowers you buy!

Time for a Party? - Here is some inspiration!

So I have a bunch of left over paper and party bags from odd bits of stationery around my house, so I thought what better thing to do is make more stationery! I packaged up a bunch of my brown kraft party bags and stamped them with my favourite decal (anyone who knows me is aware of my fascination with birds and trees). I have decided to sell them online for $6 for 10. Bargain!

I bundled up a bunch of assorted tags and used a variety of stamps for occasions, then cut an assortment of ribbon and created these lovely present labels! I am selling 5 of them for $2. (These are assorted so it's a bit of a lucky dip with what you'll get!)

Zines Zines Zines! Q&A with Zine Artist Kitiya Palaskas

Ok, so paper is definitely something The Fox Trail Girls love! So I decided to make my way down to The Paper Mill in Sydney CBD to check out a little bit more about "zines". What's a zine you may ask? Well, say you like mushrooms, not the ugly brown ones, but the cute red button ones that pop up in every fairytale and you decided to make a small over obsessive publication about them using any photo you can find, some copy paper and a Xerox machine. That's a zine. However, you do find a lot more effort goes into something you truly admire, and that is what Kitiya Palaskas shared with us tonight. Kit was lovely enough to show us her recent as well as very first projects, amongst a bunch of mock-ups. It has really inspired me and has kept me up to the late hours of the night thinking about what I would like to do a zine about. Any suggestions? Check out her website and check back to see what wacky idea I have come up with!

Delicately beautiful

Today I stumbled across artist Kylie Stillman, and my goodness am I pleased I did! I popped into Utopia Art Sydney, on Danks street in Waterloo and they were setting up for their new exhibition. They were kind enough to let me have a sneak peek and I was blown away by Kylie's work - it's absolutely beautiful. She works with paper and hand cuts each piece to create these stunning pieces. I can't image how much love, care and time must go into each artwork.

While you'll have to drop by the gallery to see her latest work here are some examples from previous exhibitions. Enjoy!
